Toronto is expected to attract 250,000 visitors from the 42 participating countries in North, South and Central America and the Caribbean.
Toronto was chosen as host city of the 2015 Pan American Games over Bogota, Colombia and Lima,Peru.
The community will be the future site of a new $1 billion athletes' village, to be built adjacent to the Don River along an extension of Front St. The village, a mix of midrise buildings and townhomes, will consist of 2,100 residential units to house the 8,500 competitors, coaches and officials expected to descend on Toronto in July 2015
Games includes construction of six new athletic venues: a stadium, indoor velodrome, Canadian Sports Institute facility and Aquatics Centre, as well as two additional 50-metre pools
The village will feature a range of temporary training facilities, including a 50- meter pool and a 400 - meter track and running trails. These amenities will subsequently be moved out of the West Don Lands to allow for further development.
The Pan Am Games are held every four years and feature all Summer Olympic sports, plus other non-Olympic events.
The 2015 Games will take place July 10 to July 26, followed by the Parapan American Games from Aug. 7 to Aug. 14.
